Aquileia is situated by the Grados lagoon, 6 km from the coast. Today it is a small village mainly sustained by agriculture. But the ruins from its proud Roman past and those from the Middle Ages can still be seen.
This is an old and atmospheric harbour town close to the Slovenian border. Located in the uppermost corner of Italy, it has had huge importance both historically and culturally as a trading port.
