This beautifully situated town east of Liguria's historic capital Genoa is located along the coast of the Ligurian Riviera and has a reputation for being a wonderful little gem. Despite its fame, the town of Santa Margherita Ligure has managed to keep it's charm. It is arguably a beautiful haven, especially in contrast to its neighbour Portofino which is even more well known.
Here you can find a lovely palm tree lined harbour, beautiful beaches, a good selection of shops and restaurants and a friendly atmosphere. It's a great place to spend a few days relaxing in the sun and milling around in the pleasant town.
There is a local fish market and a charming marina here. The centre is scattered with orange trees and also is home to the beautiful Villa Durazzo with a landscaped garden and an enchanting view over the Italian Riviera. For night owls there is plenty of opportunity to party until the early hours during the summer months.
Energetic souls may be tempted by exciting walks to Monte Portofino or to San Fruttuoso, located in a remote azure lagoon. From here you can stroll or cycle along the beautiful coastal road to Portofino.
