During the ages several noble families have lived in Cagli. Unfortunately the many old palaces, churches (18 in total) and the town’s theatre are not in equally good states of repair. However, work has started on the restoration work of all these old treasures.

The town landmark is undoubtedly the great tower – Torrione Martiniano – the last remaining part of the town’s fortress from 1460.

The town hall dominates the central square. Architecturally the town hall is remarkable by being a mixture of a church built in Romanesque style and a medieval palace. For the local population the highlight of the year falls on the 2nd Sunday in August when the town holds its fiesta. Then it is time to give the old national costumes an airing. So if you happen to be in Marche on this particular Sunday a visit to the town is thoroughly recommended.
