Urbania, on the River Metauro, is a charming town with a lively cultural scene. There is a respected language school, annual literature prizes, and a thriving ceramics production that dates all the way back to the 16th century.

The town’s main attraction is the Palazzo Ducale where today you can find the town museum and a good collection of beautiful tiles produced in the area. Something else worth seeing here is the church, La Chiesa dei Morti (the Church of the Dead), behind whose imposing Gothic entrance, you will find a rather creepy but fascinating collection of mummies! These unfortunate creatures were exhumed at the beginning of the 19th century and became mummies.

Apart from La Chiesa dei Morti church you can visit the cathedral in Urbania and the bishop’s palace beside it, which is now a museum housing an art collection, a collection of religious artifacts and ceramics.

Outside the city walls lies the great park Parco Ducale or Barco, which was once used for hunting by Urbino dukes.
