Sciacca is located on the south coast of Sicily between Agrigento and Selinunte. Both places are famous for their archaeological wonders.

Sciacca is not known for its archaeological finds, but for its springs of hot mineral water. The springs were appreciated by the Greeks and the Romans, and later the Saracens who, during their long lasting rule of the town, named the town Syak, which in Arabic means to bathe.

Over time Sciacca has also become known for its pottery, in particular tiles. The tiles adorn the town in many places and the steps up from the harbour are exceptionally well decorated with tiles made by various artists.

The big square is situated like a terrace over the harbour and is the heart of Sciacca. From here the views are fantastic. Sciaccia is an authentic coastal town and the harbour is its vibrant and important centre. From the harbour there are great views over the colourful town.

Once you have visited the springs and the lovely sandy beaches at Sciacca, you can amuse yourself by going to the fabulous garden “il Giardino Incantato” – a large garden full of faces cut into stone. The garden is just outside the town centre towards Agrigento.
