Forte dei Marmi has for decades been home to a painters’ community, and for many the town needs no introduction.

Long before our time, artists and wealthy men would come here to enjoy the beaches and like-minded company. To mention a couple of prominent examples, Thomas Mann often stayed here for long periods, and the Siemens family had a modest summer residence here (modest, that is, in comparison with their usual standards!).

Today there are lots of exclusive shops, hotels and restaurants in the town, which is, without a doubt, the most expensive coastal town in Tuscany. If you want to go on a day out, you might consider Viareggio (15 km), Pisa (38 km) or the beautiful landscape of Le Cinque Terre (75 km).
