The church of Our Lady in the Snow (Chiesa della Madonna della Neve) is among
Lari’s oldest buildings. Its old medieval walls are still standing and the church can boast of works by Della Robbia. The mansions from the 18th and 19th centuries make the perfect backdrop for the old fortress.
Situated on the castle’s highest courtyard is the town’s museum. Here you can visit the old courtroom from the 1700s, the underground dungeons from the 1500s and the torture room (Sala dei Tormenti), where various torture implements are exhibited. From here there is an amazing view over the beautiful countryside of the area.
The museum is open on all public holidays from 15:00 to 18:00 between October and March and between 15:30 and 19:00 during the rest of year. You can also arrange a visit on other days by telephoning the museum on: (+39) 0587 684126.
