For many people who enjoy the good life, the name Sinalunga is synonymous with the gourmet restaurant ”Locanda dell’Amorosa” just outside the town. Its fame is justified, the standards are extremely high and, according to Italian standards, so are the prices.
The old farmhouse is indeed delightful and the food is unsurpassed, but Sinalunga has other things to offer besides.

Bizarrely the name comes from the Italian “Asinalunga” meaning “the long she donkey”, but this is not something that the less than 12,000 inhabitants of the town spend much time contemplating.

This middle-sized town is quite overlooked by most tourists, who are busy bypassing it on the road to Cortona (30 km) or Siena (45 km).

Sinalunga has countless charming cafés, restaurants, all sorts of shops as well as many churches and beautiful buildings. It is very obvious that the history of the town goes far back, at least to the 12th century. This southeastern corner of Tuscany is also well placed for trips to Umbria, Perugia (65 km), Assisi (80 km) and Oriveto (80 km), which are all within an hour’s drive.
