Although over the past decades Tuscany has become one of Italy’s most popular holiday destinations, and even though at times you can get the impression that everything there has been created to benefit tourists, there are still parts of this beautiful region which appear totally untouched by this development. Stia in the lovely Casentino valley is one such exception.

The streets in the little town show no signs of tourism, but you can nevertheless – or perhaps because of this – find many good places to have a cup of coffee or a nice meal. Try a visit to the little church in the main street. The facade is pure Baroque, but when you enter a whole treasure trove of artistic masonry is revealed in the columns’ capitals!

If you want to get to the better-known towns in Tuscany, Arezzo is 48 km away and Florence 53 km.
