As the region's capital, Milan is best known for its exclusive shops, football and then of course the famous La Scala opera house. It is also home to the world famous Leonardo da Vinci museum, which requires at least a couple of hours to visit.
Milan is also a city with stylish cafés, and smart and fashionable men and women. The city centre around the cathedral is the most interesting area in Milan.
Other interesting towns in Lombardy include Pavia, Piacenza, Como, Mantova, Bergamo and Cremona, which all have monuments and sights of interest to tourists.
Many of the Lombard towns have one thing in common; they are rich in historic monuments especially from the Middle Ages. The shoppers and the fashion conscious can, of course, also satisfy their needs in the many exclusive shops found in the bigger towns.
