The Aeolian islands consist of seven small volcanic islands beautifully located a short distance from the north coast of Sicily. The islands are peaceful and constitute a wonderful natural paradise with more than 5000 years of cultural history. The Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Arabs and Normans have all left their mark on the islands.
The sight of vertical cliffs, black beaches, deep sea and smoking volcanoes is remarkable and bears witness to the sudden creation of the islands in this calm and spectacular corner of the Mediterranean. Strong volcanic colours against the clear pure blue sea make for incredibly beautiful sunsets.
The Aeolian islands are not just about scenery and history. They are also about bustling old town centres and a thriving island-culture with pretty villages and old romantic houses featuring elegant lacelike windows and balconies overflowing with geraniums and carnations. They give the impression of being ringside seats to a stage made up of streets and piazzas.
