L'Orto di Lucania is located on the plains outside Montescaglioso, approx. 10 km from Matera and 30 km from the coastline and the beaches at Metaponto. The building stands along the Bradano river in 250 hectares of ground, where corn, maize, tomatoes, aubergines, artichokes, olives and fruit are grown.

L'Orto di Lucania is known for its traditional production of preserved food in jars and pickled vegetables in extra virgin oil which can be bought on site. Approx. 100 m from the accommodation is a small restaurant where you book a table and taste the local cooking and farm produce. If you feel like picking the produce yourself this is freely available all over the farm. The colouring of the landscape is warm and vivid thanks to the many sunny days, and the springs that keep the area fertile and productive.

The farm has six 2-room apartments in three houses. In front of the houses, there is a garden, swimming pool with children's area and barbecue. Shared laundry and iron are also available to guests.

The apartments are well equipped and nicely furnished. They all have air conditioning, and heating. On request TV is also available. The apartments have living room with dining table, fireplace, double sofa bed, kitchen, bedroom with double bed, bathroom with toilet and shower, and veranda. They are all located on the ground floor.

We recommend this as a base for families and couples who want to visit these little known parts of southern Italy, and have a comfortable and well kept place to stay. The hospitable brothers Beniamino and Fulvio, who manage the place, have really created a comfortable and simple residence with plenty of opportunity for relaxing.
