There is no doubt that San Gimignano is worth a visit. The picturesque medieval town with all its many towers, winding streets and magnificent churches is in fact worth several visits.

But many may not like to stay in the centre of this very popular town. During the busiest times of the day and for large parts of the year it is crowded by literally thousands of fellow tourists. Therefore most would probably agree that it is preferable to live close to the city in order to enjoy it at a leisurely pace in small bits early in the morning and in the evenings, when it reverts to a steadier pace of life.

And where better to live than in the small village of Pancole, which is only 6.5 km away from the "town with the beautiful towers"? There are very few tourists in Pancole but there is a restaurant as well as a wonderful view over the landscape and San Gimignano. In the hills around Pancole much of the famous Vernaccia di San Gimignano is produced, which is often considered one of Italy's best white wines.

For more than 50 years the Cesani family has made wine and oil on their farm. Their wines are justifiably famous for their high quality. They have several times been awarded the coveted distinction of "Tre Bicchieri" by the Italian wine bible "Gambero Ross".

Even though several generations of the family still live on the farm it has become too big for them. Since accommodation is no longer needed for farm hands and servant girls the family has chosen to convert part of the farm to hotel rooms. The rooms are comfortable and fitted with solid furniture in good taste.

In the garden guests have access to a swimming pool 12 x 6 m. Here you can cool down and enjoy a glass of wine from the farm cellar while you admire the beautiful Tuscan scenery. What more could one want? Except possibly some wine tasting arranged by the farm for its guests!
