Basilicata is squashed in between the regions of Campania, Calabria and Apulia. It is one of the least visited areas in Italy. Much of the region is mountainous with far between the villages and towns.
Bernalda is situated 40 km from Matera and the town’s well-known Sassi.
Today town mostly lives from agriculture. On its 123 km² of land they grow tobacco, wine and oranges, which are often processed by local companies.
