San Casciano in Val di Pesa is situated in the northwestern part of Chianti. With its stunning surroundings, it’s a great place if you want a holiday in the country. Here you’ll experience the magnificent Tuscan landscape as you see it in movies and on postcards. It’s quite simply picture-perfect!

This delightful little town is a stranger to industry and earns its living from farming and tourism. There are numerous well-known vineyards close by, including Machiavelli’s old country residence, where he spent years following his exile from Florence, and where he wrote his masterpiece Il Principe. Today, the vineyard produces great wines, and also houses a wonderful restaurant.

There is no shortage of cafés, restaurants and all manner of shops in this town, the centre of which is picturesque and car-free. And with just a 20-minute drive to Florence, you are never far from pulsating city life and all its cultural experiences.

From San Casciano we recommend visiting the following chateaux:
Castello di Vicchiomaggio
Castello di Verrazzano
