Monterosso is the northernmost of the five villages in the Cinque Terre nature reserve, and it’s easiest to get here by car.

The town consists of two parts: the old quarter with traditional fishermen’s cottages by the harbour and the newer part with hotels on the Fegina beach. In the eastern end of the new part there is a 14 metre-high statue of Neptune (Il Gigante) that watches over the swimmers.

On the eastern side of the station, which divides the village, you will find the ’real’ Monterosso with its small harbour, the beautiful facade on the San Giovanni Battista church, delightful narrow streets, so characteristic of the Cinque Terre villages, and not least countless wine bars (enotecas).

You can also taste local wines that are grown on the mountainsides of Cinque Terre.
