Scicli is a town full of atmosphere with fine streets that are charming and interesting to wander through. The town is a jewel as yet uncommercialised by tourists.

Like other towns in this part of Sicily, Scicli is characterized by Baroque architecture from the 17th century. But the history of the town goes further back, and it was an important town ruled by both Arabs and Normans.

Today, Scicli is a small town with 25,000 inhabitants about 10 km from the sea north of Sampieri and a few kilometers south of the towns of Ragusa and Modica. The town is in the southern part of Monti Iblei and approximately 100 metres above sea level.

The town offers tourists several good eating-places, cafés and shops.

The main attractions of the town are Chiesa del Camine on Piazza Busacca and Chiesa di Santa Maria la Nova, which has a wooden sculpture of the Madonna, which is thought to date back to the Byzantine era on Sicily. Churches like Chiesa Madre Sant’Ignazio and Chiesa di San Bartolomeo are also worth a visit.

To get a good impression of the wonderful Baroque style, it is worth walking past the town hall Palazzo Spadaro and Palazzo Beneventano.
