A fabulous tower which was the old Belforti family residence dominates Montecatini Val di Cecina and the surrounding area. The town can be seen as a typical example of a medieval settlement, which has grown up around the buildings housing political and religious powers. These include Palazzo Pretorio with its cross-vaulted porch, and the San Biagio church, whose current form dates back to the 15th century.

Montecatini Val di Cecina is situated in the midst of some quite exceptional countryside. There are forests full of wildlife, and charming country villages such as Castel Querceto with its Roman church San Giovanni and lush forest surroundings. We also recommend a visit to La Sassa village, which is perched on a hilltop with a fantastic view stretching from Volterra to the coast and over the ancient houses around the tower and the church of San Martino.

And last but not least, the towns of Casaglia and Gello and the old copper mine on the outskirts of Montecatini, which has existed since Etruscan times are also worth a visit.
