Palaia is the quintessential small and charming Tuscan town. It is located high up on a hill, and from the remains of the castle at the highest point in the town, you have a stunning view over the surrounding area.
Even though Palaia has a very central location between Tuscany’s most famous and visited towns – Florence, Siena and Pisa – there are not as many tourists here as you might expect. Perhaps this is the reason why the atmosphere seems so authentic and the streets so uncommercialised. There are no hotels or supermarkets in the town, but you can find all the other facilities you may need on a typical holiday. There are grocery stores, petrol stations, cafés and three restaurants.
