Capo d’Orlando offers no ancient ruins, medieval churches or Baroque palaces.
Instead you find a well-run town with a pulsating nightlife and everything you could want for a longer stay in Sicily. Capo d’Orlando is not at all touristy, but a town where ordinary Sicilians live and work.
Therefore the town has good train and bus connections to the rest of the island, all kinds of shops, many restaurants as well as banks, pharmacists, bakers, pastry shops and supermarkets.
In the Nebrodi mountains you find old villages which were once inhabited by Sicilian noble families. The districts in the area are now a nature reserve. Walking along the old paths and narrow passageways you get the most spectacular views of the sea and Mount Etna.
Excursions to Palermo, Etna and Messina are to be recommended. A longer drive will take you to the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento and to Taormina.
From Capo d'Orlando we recommend the following excursions:
-
Cefalù, where the old fortress and the Norman church dominate the town's profile and atmosphere
