Como and Bellagio are in fact quite close but the journey will easily take an hour because of the narrow and winding coastal road.
Although the drive is magnificent it is preferable to go by boat as it is much more relaxing.
From Bellagio there is a stunning view over the 3 parts of the lake, the lower and upper part of Lago di Como on the left, and Lago di Lecco as the lower part is called on the right. In his book “Chartreuse de Parme” the author Stendhal describes this view as comparable to – but not exceeding – the most fantastic view in the world, which in his opinion is the view over the bay of Naples. The Frenchman begins his book at Villa Carlotta located on the opposite side of the lake to Bellagio.
