Lari is a charming old town on top of a hill south of Pisa. You can reach Lari by bus, but if you prefer travelling by train, the nearest station is in Pontedera. The town is still known for its traditional farming methods, with cherry production being its speciality. It is therefore a wonderful experience to visit in May or June, when the town has its annual cherry festival, Sagra delle Celiege. Olive oil and Chianti Putto wines also count amongst Lari’s most important sources of income.

The castle in Lari is an old fortress, which is still inhabited. The upper floors of the castle have been converted into a museum. The town offers a fascinating combination of authentic Tuscan life and history, and is relatively uncommercialised, unlike other towns in the hills around Pisa
