In the most south eastern corner of Tuscany, a stone’s thrown from Umbria and Lazio, lies Chiusi, known to many only because this is where you change trains when travelling from Rome to Siena.
This is unfair because the town is most certainly not without charm or interesting sights. The town is actually right in the middle of one of the most impressive Etruscan archaeological sites, and its historic centre is quite lovely.
The town’s churches and museums are well worth a visit and there are many other excursion options close by. Perugia, Orvieto and Cortona are all within 50 km, and since the A1 motorway passes the town, the 125 km to Florence doesn’t take much more than an hour.
