Do not expect great cultural happenings in the little town of Campiglia d’Orcia, but the scenery is superb and the town is pretty. Once a fortress tower belonging to the powerful Aldobrandeschi family stood on top of the sharp peak in the middle of town. Today a small tower has been built on the same spot in memory of the greatness the town enjoyed in earlier times. A couple of grocery shops, a restaurant and cafés can be found in the town as well as plenty of peace and quiet.
The town is not on the mainstream tourist route, but it is still only a short distance away from well known towns like Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano and San Quirico d’Orcia because it is quite close to the main road Via Cassia running from Rome past Siena to Florence and beyond.
