The little town of Agerola is the starting point for many walks of different lengths and difficulty. You can choose to walk inland or walk high above the Amalfi coast. All the walks have their own challenges and take you through beautiful countryside and are called “Sentieri degli dei” – the path of the Gods.
You can walk from Agerola 7 km to Positano on the steep cliffs that characterise the area. Along this path the view is simply breathtaking.
The few houses along the path only serve to emphasise the wild and untamed countryside. The flora is varied and in the spring and summer the area is awash with colour.

In the autumn you see the locals with their weathered olive skin out collecting mushrooms and a special type of rowan berry – about the size of a small plum. The sea is several hundred metres below you and constantly seems to change colour from this height.

The path takes you along the majestic cliffs. You need to be in reasonable shape and wear sensible walking shoes if you want to walk all 7 km and back again. Luckily on the way you can fill your water bottle, which is necessary even outside the heat of summer. Out of the total of 10 routes there are some less demanding paths where the height difference is much less and which are only 2 km long.
When you have finished the walk you can rest your tired body at a good restaurant and with a clear conscience enjoy some of the specialties of the area. The authentic mozzarella, made from buffalo milk straight from the creamery has a completely different taste to the plastic variety often found in supermarkets. With some bread and a glass or two of local red wine this is a feast fit for a king!
