Pineto with its sandy beaches is another ideal Italian holiday destination for the young families. It is on the Italian Adriatic coast near the regional capital Pescara and is a relatively new town.
Despite being a new town, it still has some charm and there are a number of period buildings including 'belle epoque'. There is a train that runs from the centre of town through the lush pine forest to the beach, and good transport links generally around town.
During the evenings, the promenade is full with tourists and locals alike, enjoying a stroll, walking the dog and taking in the general ambience. The dense pine forest is lush and inviting and is a shady alternative to explore perhaps during the warmer parts of the day.

Many Italian tourists flock here during the summer months. The town has a market in the evening, an amusement park for children and the main street is closed to traffic providing a vibrant pedestrian area. There is a wonderful long sandy beach, where you can either rent sun loungers and sun umbrellas, or choose to go without on the free public beach.
If you are suffering from the heat, or just want to see something new, you can visit the little town of Mutigniano with its fun wall paintings or the slightly bigger town of Atri. During the winter months of October till March it is even possible to go skiing in the central Abruzzo region on the Gran Sasso mountain. They are both situated up in the mountains behind Pineto and are refreshingly cool on hot days.
