The town is named after Monte Cervino, the Italian name for the Matterhorn mountain, that Cervinia shares with Zermatt on the other side of the mountain in Switzerland. The town is situated at an elevation of 1524 meters and surround by infinite snowy mountains reaching up to 3800 meters. The Matterhorn itself touches 4478 meters. Cervinia is one of Italy’s most known ski resorts and has developed itself to a niche since the 70’s. It is quite an up-market town, probably because of its cross border link with Zermatt.
The slopes of the area around Breuil Cervinia are perfect for families with children. The red pistes are generally not that steep and feel more bleu than red. As the town is an upmarket town, it is generally more quiet compared to Austria for instance, except in the weekends where you find some après ski bars showing a bit of liveliness. There are various restaurants, shops and bars in town if you want to look for a different setting.
Breuil Cervian is also in summer a great center for various trekking tours to and around the surrounding mountain ranges.

Hotel Chalet Valdotain is classified as a three star hotel, although at In-Italia we found the service worth 4 suns. The whole place appears a bit traditional and rustic Alpine style whether you like or don’t’ like. It is located out of town along the road leading to Cervinia on a picturesque location between the pine trees.
As the hotel is located 1.2 km out of town, there is a shuttle service bringing you to the ski lifts of Cervinia as well as a pick up until 18.00 hours.
Many people like to stay here on half board as the restaurant serves a good quality 4 course menu with large portions and good wines. Of course if you prefer to eat in town, there is breakfast only basis available.
The three star Chalet Valdotain even provides a wellness center with an indoor pool, sauna, steam bath, Jacuzzi and several treatments and massages.
In the lounge bar with a cosy fireplace, you can get a refreshment or light snack and here is free WiFi connection if you would like to check your email.
Furthermore, you find a parking garage at an extra cost of 10,- per night and ski storage for your gear.
The hotel only features 35 comfortable rooms and all are decorated in traditional style. All rooms come with sat TV, safe, phone, minibar and private bathroom with shower and hairdryer.
