Corigliano d'Otranto is in many ways a typical small Apulian town with its imposing castle, Castello de 'Monti, its large primary church, called the Chiesa Madre, and its host of smaller churches, palaces and other beautiful buildings.
Despite all these attactions, it never seems overcrowded because tourism in Apulia is not as huge as it is in so many other places in Italy. The town's collection of buildings dating from the 16th and 17th Centuries are very aesthetically pleasing and interesting but cannot compete with the grand historical sites found in many of the big cities.
However, Corigliano d'Otranto has everything that you need for a rewarding and relaxing stay, whether in terms of shopping and dining options, and you can hide from the sheep-like groups that can be found trampling the more famous sites such as Bari's old centre, Alberobello's trulli houses and Otranto's Cathedral.
