If you love rocky landscapes and breathtaking views, visit Corsano. With its historic centre and the rocky coast and turquoise sea, this is an excellent base for your vacation in Salento.

A history with many influences

It is not quite sure when Corsano originated, but some Roman remains have been discovered in the form of prehistoric paintings in the caves along the coast. What otherwise remains today of the town's history includes several findings from the Middle Ages. For example you can see the remains of the castle Castello Baronale Capece, in the Umberto square which was erected in the 1600's. Various invasions during past eras have characterized the region and created a fascinating mix of different genres. Here you can follow history's footsteps and discover the characteristic castle garden. There is a legend that says that the castle's owners built an underground pedestrian tunnel to make it possible to escape from the castle in the event of barbaric intrusion.
