The biggest challenge if you choose to holiday here, is that you won't want to leave! The hotel is in-fact blessed with an absolutely captivating sea view and a wealth of attractive facilities including a swimming pool. Villa Scapone certainly evokes a lot of cheers.
Hotel Villa Scapone sits on the right side of the coast road on the Gargano peninsula's dramatic coastline between Vieste (30 km) and Mattinata (10 km). The hotel is south facing and enjoys the sun until late afternoon (depending on the season of course). You will be mesmerized by the view which takes in the lofty chalk walls and dreamlike beaches down in Mattinatella, which is approx. 1 ½ miles away. One of the two beaches is accessible and offers beach services, parking and boat rental. There is a restaurant only approx. 2 km from the hotel (and is called San Michele) - but we reccomend that you go by car since the road has no sidewalk.

Hotel Villa Scapone is certainly best suited for couples (travelling without children) since there is a romantic atmosphere on site and this hotel prides itself on peace & quiet. It is also located on a hill with steep steps so is not suitable for young children in that sense.
The hotel exudes a certain luxury, especially in its outdoor areas. Much of the outdoor furniture is exquisitely designed and of a very high quality. The swimming pool (only open i high season) has a jacuzzi and a pool bar, a hammock and sun terraces with sun loungers. The ocean view is completely captivating! These aspects deserve 4.5 stars according to us at In-Italia but because the public areas indoors do not exude the same luxury, and some of the rooms are quite simple in decor, we have chosen to classify the hotel as a four star. Note that because the hotel is on the hillside it means that there is a steep walk of around 100 metres down to the pool from the front desk. From the pool there are 193 steps that will take you down to the beach and there is a platform from where you can jump right into the sea.
You can enjoy a drink in the bar area with panoramic views. You get the impression of sitting on a yacht from here, it's quite something. A breakfast buffet is also served here in the mornings. There is also an area inside reception with a sofa and Wi-Fi internet and a lounge with a fireplace where there is an internet point. There is also a small gym.

When driving to the hotel, you need to keep and eye out of the sign. If you're coming from Mattinata you have a sharp right turn before a big hill down. If you're coming from Vieste, it isn't possible to reach the hotel without backing up and going in the other direction to get down the steep hill - Truly a sharp turn, Jiminy!
The hotel lies a bit like a precipice, you could say. There is, like mentioned, a bug hill down to the main start. In the reception you are given a warm and comfortable reception. We lived in the main building, where we had a lovely room with a giant, really lovely, terrace with loungers and a hammock. The view from the room was magical, not to mention the view when taking a shower- the whole of the Mediterranean, wow!
We ate at the hotel restaurant 2 nights. The tables are put in small alcoves, a little chambre seoaree with a view over the ocean. The service is excellent, fairly priced and delicious food.
The hotel's breakfast is far above Italian standards, it is also ingested in alcoves with view over the ocean.
The hotel's pools are very beautiful, if you appreciate peace, quiet and swimming, it is perfect. If you want to swim in the ocean, there are no beaches connected to the hotel, but a path.
It feels like the hotel is perfect for couples, partly because of the separated alcoves for dinner and breakfast, but also because the hotel is very solitary and isolated. There isn't anywhere to go after dinner, you are pretty locked in.
We were there 3 nights and found it good. After 2 days, we did, however, feel like it was enough with the isolation and drove to the nearby town Mattinata and ate dinner there. It was very exciting driving on the streamers way in the middle of the night.
