Way back in history, the area in and around Marina di Nova Siri was inhabited and this makes the place interesting historically, as well as being renowned as a great holiday destination because of the good sandy beaches.
In the surrounding area, there is lots to see: there is a Greek ghost town, the remains of a Roman villa, Roman spas with mosaic flooring, another Roman villa with partially intact mosaic floors and the remains of a medieval tower. At the National Museum in Policoro you can admire many other historical finds from the area.
On a hilltop above the marina perches Nova Siri. In the Middle Ages, the coastal dwellers moved up here because of repeated flooding, and the ancient castle on top of the hill dates from this period.
