The town is in an elevated position at 581 metres above sea level and has about 2,000 inhabitants.
Among the sites of the town and the surrounding areas include Zagarises main church Chiesa di Santa Maria Assunta, Chiesa del Rosario, the Norman tower and several monasteries.
The surroundings are beautiful, marked by the mountainous landscape that dominates the area. The town is surrounded by other small towns on the outskirts of the forests that make up the Sila Nature Reserve and it is not far from the Ionian Sea.
