It is located right on the water with a beautiful beach in the centre, a historic and very charming town and is the nearest neighbour to Amalfi town. It also has a very special beach just to the side of it going towards Amalfi where you will find even less of a crowd.
The reason that most just drive past Atrani is that the authorities have chosen to lead the coastal road over the small village via a bridge, and therefore it is easy to miss the turning for the town. However it is so worth dropping down to the coast from there. Because of the bridge, the usual traffic chaos doesn't occur here, nor is the traffic noise heard. You can alse get here easily on foot from Amalfi as it is just around the corner.

Atrani was originally a small fishing village and fishing still plays an important role today. You can see many of the local fishermen pulling up their nets on the beach and counting the days catch. As they do that, you can think about the menu that evening, which is likely to be the catch of the day. You can reach Atrani's square which is the main piazza in the town centre via two ports under the bridge, from where there are some great views. The centre has a romantic atmosphere and a there are a few cafes and a few restaurants.
Atrani has a cosy local life, with a few shops, restaurants and a barber that became famous when actor Flemming Jensen had a shave with just him in a TV broadcast. Atrani has also served as the backdrop for several films - and the town acts as a magnet for artistic types who are looking for the ambiance you originally could have found anywhere on the Amalfi Coast. Atrani has no hotels as such, but it is however possible to rent one of the several apartments available here that we have handpicked.
The Amalfi Coast has in recent years become a prime target for the ever growing hiking tourism, and several of the routes that wind through the surrounding mountains and villages, lead through Atrani town, which is wedged between the mountains in a fan-shaped valley. So if you stay in Atrani, you can easily connect to the hiking routes.
By car, it is only possible to park in the public car park (charges apply) between the beach and the town square. If you are on public transport, there are bus stops on the bridge over the centre, and from there you can get down to the square via a staircase, or you can walk on the sidewalk along the road which leads down from just before the tunnel.
