The small town of Sant’Agnello is closely connected to Sorrento. It is only 10 minutes walk from Corso Italia, which is the main street in Sorrento with shops, restaurants and hotels.
The town enjoys a good location with an outstanding view over the whole of the Bay of Naples. No wonder therefore that Sant’Agnello is a popular location for many of the luxury hotels in the area.
Even if finances do not allow you to stay in these grand palaces, it is definitely worth paying the town a visit anyway. The luxury hotel Cocomella from 1822 has a particularly unique atmosphere. The old building is set in a fairytale garden with all manner of trees and flowers, and it enjoys a marvellous view over the whole of the Bay of Naples. During the spring and summer months various musical events and performances are held in the hotel’s fascinating rooms which are open to the public.
Sant’Agnello has two fine beaches, of which Marinella is particularly recommended. The beach is not very big but well looked after and atmospheric, particularly at dusk when the special evening light reflects the colours of the rocks in a most fascinating way.
In September, Sant’Agnello hosts a remarkable festival, “la sagra dei colli di Fantanelle” to honour agriculture. Farmers come from far and near with all manner of produce: vegetables and fruit of enormous proportions are put on show, and the delicacies are tried and tasted. In the summer months and at Easter, as in the other coastal towns, traditional town parties take place. One of these is “il festival del mare” and is a tribute to the work of fishermen. The great religious processions are also definitely worth watching.
