The small town has just 400 inhabitants and it's the cosy sort of place where everybody knows everybody. It is said that Dante Alighieri met Beatrice Portinari here.

Admire the view

The town's serene and friendly atmosphere is inextricably linked with the many elderly residents in the streets. There are many colourful flowers around town which create a bright mood, and you can enjoy the view over the valley from up at the tower. In the town you will find an ATM, a language school, gas station, newsstand, grocery, bakery, butcher and a bar.

The National Park Casentinodalen

The town lies on the edge (5 km) of the sprawling nature park with the long name that almost takes your breath away: Parco Nazionale delle Foreste Casentinesi Monte Falterona Campigna. Autumn is a good time to go mushroom and truffle hunting here, and otherwise its possibile to spot wild orchids and traces of wolves, deer and wild boar.
