To nice weeks in

After a lot of nice vacations in Casa Capellari, we were pretty excited to see how our "new" apartment in Casa Guibbonari would be. We had called from the airport as agreed, and when we came to the apartment, the front door luckily stood open, so we could just come and in and take the elevator up to the 2nd floor. Here we met the very kind cleaning lady for the first time, who let us in the apartment. What an apartment! Large combined with kitchen and living room, large bedroom with a big bed, that maybe was a little too low for old people. A small hallway with a wardrobe and a washing machine and finally a big bathroom with two sinks and bathtub. Did i forget that there also was a dishwasher? We didn't use the bathtub, washing machine, or dishwasher though. A little later Hassan came and helped us getting the PC installed, and gave us some good tips and showed us the fine guide for the apartment. Completely professional. When we came home to the apartment the following day, the bed wasn't only made, it had also gotten its sheets changed, and in the middle of the dining table stood half a flask of sparkling wine. We had ordered cleaning the last day, but there had clearly already been cleaned, what we thought, we could handle ourselves. But lovely, it was. It isn't necessary to mention that when we had been there for a week, the sheets was changed, and clean towels were brought out. All in all, we had a lovely base for our 2 weeks vacation to Rome. What did do to pass the time? When you have been there almost 40 times in this lovely city, and for my wife over 25 times, we have seen all "mermaids". We have fine some fine exhibits, on our usual tour to the ocean by Anzio. I recommended it, if you want to see other things than Rome itself. One of the days I had an old dream fulfilled. We took the train to Monte Cassino. It was an amazing experience, and we both agreed that it probably wouldn't be the last time we'll take that trip. One single "mermaid" we had to have with us though. Palatine Hill. A lot of years ago soon, we were so lucky that a worker opened Livias house to us. Since have we in vain been there each year to see if it had reopened. This year it was, but you had to order tickets from home to get in. Next year it is guaranteed we'll get in. To walk these places, where so many exciting events in world history has taken place, is incredibly exciting. Besides this experience, we were also to various basilicas, where the Lateran more and more takes over the interest we've had in S. Pietro. Santa Maria Maggiore os also worth a visit. We are already looking forward to next year at the same time, where we hope to get such a lovely apartment again. Regarding practical advice, we have a few: The baker lives right around the corner when you leave the front door to the left and down the first street. Supermarket is on the next street. Two restaurants among more, we can recommend is "Sams Bar" on Campo id Fiori. The one before food from the restaurant is in the opposite street corner. Fine food at reasonable prices. The other one is "Tucci"on Piazza Navona. Her it is the same regarding prices and food. It also has a funny, charming, and very professional service. Kind regards Birgit and Poul Bernth.
