Hotel Ponte Sisto, which is named after the Ponte Sisto, is a lovely first class hotel, located in a quiet side street in the old historic centre, in the immediate vicinity of the flower square of Campo de 'Fiori and the exciting artistic neighbourhood of Trastevere. The hotel is housed in a former monastery, and has a lovely courtyard formed by the former cloister.
Until 1998, the hotel was a 2 star and was very popular among Danish public due to the location and the extremely reasonable prices. However, in connection with the Catholic Holy Year 2000, the place was taken over by the Vatican and refurbished as luxury accommodation for the clergy who travelled to the city. In summer 2001, it returned to being a hotel again, and has become as popular as before but with a slightly more upmarket crowd.
