The city of Viterbo is one of the region of Lazio's absolute gems with its fairytale medieval centre. The city houses the university (where you can study the Nordic language), a number of barracks and a renowned spa, so it's a fairly lively provincial town with many restaurants and a wealth of great shops.
The city is well known for its fine medieval centre with many beautiful piazzas and interesting architectural features. The city served as a transitional residence for the Pope and in the city centre's beautiful cathedral square you will find the remains of the old Papal palace - Palazzo dei Papi.

Take a hot spring bath in the natural waters just outside the town. They are found here and there outside the town and many locals use the baths using their cars as changing rooms. If you want a more organised spa with the chance to shower afterwards and change in private, then we recommend that you visit the spa "Terme dei Papi" located a few kilometres outside the city. It is an amazing experience to swim in the warm water out in the open, especially on cold days.
Take a ride out of town in the direction of the spa, and you will arrive at Castel d'Asso, a large scenic area full of Etruscan tombs carved into the rocks. There are few tourists here so you can enjoy tranquillity and nature in historic surroundings, and it is an ideal place to take a picnic. We also recommend a visit to the Villa Lante in Bagnaia which is internationally known for its baroque garden.
