Beach holidays at the Italian riviera

Liguria is located north-west of Italy and has long been a popular destination thanks to its stunning scenery and not least the mild climate. The mountains protect the coastal areas against the cold climate that comes from the north, which not only holiday guests at the coast will enjoy but that also creates good conditions for farming. Nicknamed "the Flower Riviera" due to the large production of roses and carnations, and both wine and olives.

If you are looking for a beach holiday at the Mediterranean, a trip to Liguria is an obvious choice. Here you find quaint seaside towns like pearls on a string with both small coves and wide sandy beaches. Spend a day in a pleasant daze on the beach, stroll along the attractive seaside promenades and explore the shops in the old town. Moreover, it is in this small region you will find the five famous coastal towns, Cinque Terre, whose beauty by itself attracts many visitors from around the world.

An active holiday in Liguria in the green mountains

During your trip to Liguria you have a unique opportunity to combine pure relaxation with exciting cultural and outdoor activities. In this coastal region you are never far away from the mountainous backland where you can explore sleepy villages and enjoy nature by traveling on foot or by bike.

If you plan an active vacation can for instance by following a hiking route " Alta Via dei Monti Liguri "from Ventimiglia on the French border in the east and all the way to the Tuscan border in the west. A trip cumulating 440 kilometers, which fortunately is divided into 43 stages - so you do not necessarily have to follow the entire path. You can look forward to breathtaking views of the coast, nice medieval towns, large olive groves and vineyards.

Genoa - "Columbus" city

Culturally speaking, Genoa is Liguria's capital and you should not go around it. The medieval district is among the most interesting of all Italy.

Genova was in the time of the 1400s, one of the main ports of the Mediterranean and an economic power center. Ironically, it was due to Columbus" discoveries on the other side of the Atlantic, that helped to reduce Genoa's importance as the main trade routes were changed. Today you can still immerse yourself in its rich history as you walk around in the old district where you are surrounded by numerous palaces and other beautiful buildings. But Genoa is certainly a vibrant city, and in the medieval district, you can go exploring the shops, markets and relax in cafes.

Genoa is just one of many cultural gems in Liguria, and almost wherever you go, you will never be far from exciting attractions in this region.
