Bordighera is between the border town of Ventimiglia France and the fashionable city of Sanremo. The new part of the town has sprung up along the flat coastline, while the old town is situated on a hill with stunning views over the coast on both sides.
Originally Bordighera is a popular excursion destination for Brits in winter, because the micro-climate here is very mild and because the coastline is very picturesque with well-preserved Ligurian architecture and characteristic pastel colors. The beaches of Bordighera are reasonable (gravel), but there are sandy beaches in the neighbouring towns of Sanremo and Arma di Taggia.
