Castelnuovo Magra is an exciting border between Liguria and Tuscany. The location on a hilltop at 180 metres above sea level can only be described as quaint. Few tourists find their way to this town with atmospheric streets and a beautiful location. The town has an excellent and well-attended Trattoria (Armanda), a small grocery store, one bar and a bakery. There are also several restaurants nearby.
The towns ancestry dates back to the 11th Century, during which time the Bishop of Luni built a castle, the ruins of which have been preserved and can be seen today. The nearest beach, Fiumaretta, is just 5 km away and the highway is 8 km away.
Tour options in this area are numerous and could include Le Cinque Terre and Portovenere (about 40 km), Lerici and Tellaro (about 15 km), Lucca and Pisa (60 km), Tuscany's beaches (about 20 km) and Santa Margherita Ligure and Portofino (about 80 km).
