The whole city was destroyed in 1887 by a huge landslide and after the reconstruction of the town, tourism began to increase. Previously it was only a small fishing village and they hadn't experienced much tourism, but the reconstruction of the town seemed to attract an interest. The long promenade overlooking the sea, the marina and beaches combined with the city's green avenues and cosy seats form an inviting setting for a successful holiday.
During early June, there is a big flower festival in the town where the street's are filled with flower parades and the pavements covered in multi-coloured petals. There is a street market in the town every Tuesday morning.
