The town belongs to the region of Liguria and has one of the largest olive plantations in the area (covers 30%). During the 13th Century, the town was known as "Villa Dolce" and was the most populated area in the valley. The most important sights include the Baroque Church "San Tommaso" and the town's bridge "Il Ponte dei Cavalieri di Malta". The town is a good starting point for excursions into the Maritime Alps, and for visiting the towns of Alassio, Borgio Verezzi, San Remo and many others.
