Set in the sought after area of the Cinque Valley on the Italian Riviera, Villa Sergilla is a little treasure with a great location that provides a great base for a holiday. The villa and its grounds are on sloping terrain so we don't recommend it to families with children aged between 2 - 12 years old.
Villa Sergilla is located on the outskirts of the medium-sized provincial town of La Spezia with its naval base and it is only approx. 2km down to the historic centre where the railway station is also located. From here it takes less than 10 minutes by train to the towns of the Cinque Terre National Park. Alternatively, it is approx. 12 km to the sandy beaches of Lerici and about. 14 km from the picturesque town of Portovenere. The villa itself is located at the end of a cul de sac - the last piece is narrow and somewhat steep. The nearest restaurant is located approx. 300 metres away.

The villa is located on a slope that looks out over the town of La Spezia with the sea in the background. Should the sun get too hot or there is a breeze from a certain direction, then there are many terraces to choose from on all sides of the house and on several levels. From the kitchen you can access a covered terrace which is the obvious place to dine outside. You can enjoy the beautifully landscaped garden in front of the villa with distinctive palm trees and hammocks. It doesn't end there, as up behind the villa is another small garden with a lawn and a small swimming pool with a Jacuzzi and jet stream (so you can swim against the tide). You will also find sun loungers and fragrant Rosemary in the garden. There is space for two cars inside the villa's grounds - and otherwise street parking. The swimming pool is open between May to September with reservation for weather conditions.
You will receive a warm welcome from Annalisa the owner of Villa Sergillia. For a start she will provide you with a welcome basket upon arrival which includes some vegetables and basic supplies so you don't need to rush straight to the shops. If you are interested in excursions, cookery classes and tastings, then Annalisa is happy to help organise these things for you. She also speaks English!
The villa is on three levels and you enter the entrance hall on the middle floor. There is a guest toilet and a large fireplace with 18th Century frescoes, marble floors and a balcony from where there are views towards La Spezia and the sea. On this floor there is a kitchen with a dining area and direct access to a large covered terrace. The American-style kitchen is equipped with a four burner stove, an oven, a microwave and a dishwasher. This is a non-smoking villa. Pets are accepted and there is a Wi-Fi internet connection, a TV, DVD and CD players.
Up on the top floor there are three elegant bedrooms with double beds (three of the beds are respectively, 190 cm, 160 cm and 140 cm) and two bathrooms with a hairdryer and toiletries. One bathroom has a shower while the second which is directly accessible from the master bedroom has a shower with hydro-massage. One of the bedrooms has a balcony with views.
If you choose to rent a villa for 4 people, you get access to the two floors described above (minus one of the three bedrooms), while if you choose the villa for 5 or more people, you get access to a large ground floor (garden level), a large dining room with access to the pergola and on the middle floor access to both the laundry, bathroom and bedroom with two single beds which can be put together. Note that the door to this room is low. It should be noted that if you only rent the villa for 4 people, the rest will not be rented out to others.
We are a family of 4, parents and two adult children who lived in Villa Sergilla in week 28, 2015. The house itself is an experience and you get the feeling of being in a beautiful private home and not a rental property. . It was important for us that we had access to 3 good bedrooms, good bathrooms, and also that we had good room. The house is certainly suitable for a larger family or several friends, but we had the luxury of having the house for ourselves, and we enjoyed it in full swing.
The house is in very quiet surroundings, and high elevated above the town of La Spezia. It offers some advantages, among other things, that it is cooler and more comfortable, but also that you are far away from noise and traffic.
The absolutely incredibly good service and the great commitment that our landlady, Annalisa, provided was a very valuable part of our stay. We were received late in the evening in the center of La Spezia, and were guided to the address when Annalisa thought we would have difficulty finding the house in the dark. A warm and smiling welcome and a care that was completely in class. The day after we were rested, Annalisa came and gave us an inspirational and thorough introduction to the area, eateries and not least Cinque Terres, which was our primary priority.
In our "package" was also our own private "Super Carla", Ramona, who delivered a couple of cleaning days and linen change, and especially the preparation of a delicious Italian dinner, which we enjoyed on one of the terraces of the house.
All in all, an experience in the top.
