Liguria's little pearl

Fantastic hotel with view towards the Ligurian Sea. Great room, great breakfast. We had two amazing dinners at the hotel. The hotel felt familiar, very nice for relaxation, since it isn't located inside Moneglia.

Cinque Terre as a holiday destination

We obviously visited the 5 villages. Unfortunately with had to do so by train and bus, because all of the paths was closed due to heavy rain.

A perfect base to explore Cinque Terre and have a holiday

The train station is only 3 minutes away and gives you a perfect opportunity to explore Cinque Terre and nearby areas. The rooms are facing the Mediterranean sea and have a wonderful view. Just a few steps away from the beach

Great location, clean and special hostess

We enjoyed our stay. It was not cheap maybe due to the location. The two hostess are surely busy and most stuff is forbidden. You cant move the sunbeds, not that anybody told us, but there is signs everywhere telling you whats allowed. I do not get it. All the guests really behaved themselves. You do not know what you pay for - like go to the public beach it is much better than the one just in front of the hotel. A hotel with that standard should have WIFI. The city Moneglia is a bit quite from the middle of september. The cafe Hemmingway is awsome and has free wifi. In total, way to expensive experience.

They should have a minibar at the room!

Cinque Terre as a holiday destination

Great. Also in the rain. The sell umbrellas everywhere. We were here medio september and due to the weather the ships did not sail between the cities. But the trains was running? A huge experience.

In-Italia's comment

Hi Anne. Thanks for your feedback. The Cinque Terre area is among Unescos list and therefore very popular and also a bit more expensive than other destinations. Hotel Leopold is far below the amount of money you would pay for a hotel with seaview and pool ells where. The hotelrooms in Liguria is in general quite small, cause the the terrain is with mountains, and space is really a short supply. That is the reason for not having minibars in the room. As it is stated at our webpage, you can ask Hotel Leopold to bring a minibar to the room without any costs. We just need to know about it. About the rules and signs, this is just for being sure that everybody has a nice vacation because not two people are the same. Best regards, Allan from In-Italia

A hotel with one of the best locations, but...

The hotel has a great view. But unfortunately you do not feel welcome. I have seen other reviews this year where people emphasize that the people working at hotel are very busy. I do not think that is true, they just do not have the resources to manage a hotel. If you look tired and worn down then it make sense that the guests does not feel welcome. We felt like that Hotel Leopold only wanted us to spend as little time as possible at the hotel. One day it was raining heavily and we sat waiting in the reception. Then the rain stopped and a man went around the reception area saying that now we could go for a walk, or see Portofino (or other cities we already had seen). We felt like he wanted to make us leave. He said these things like 5 times, and in the end we mostly felt like screaming back to him or going back to our room, which was being cleaned. And then they do not have the option to pay with credit card ( I've contacted the bank... it was not true). There is no safebox at the rooms, which is unacceptable, due to the reception sometimes being empty and you can just go take your own key. I think it is about time that In-Italia has a conversation with the hotel if they want to keep continuing representing/selling the hotel. In-Italia are more than welcome to contact me for further information. Regards Aage Sørensen.

Great place

It was not easy to feel the smile or passion from the host pair. The hostess answered all our questions, but she was cold. The host was mad and not so open-minded, no eye-contavt. But the mother-in-law was sweet and friendly. There was so many "dont do this" signs everywhere. We know what to do and not to do staying at a hotel. We were not able to decide where to have breakfast (there was two rooms). At arrival they asked us if we wanted something to drink while we waited, and we accepted - but at departure we had to pay for what we had that day. It is not about the money, it is just the whole situation. We thought the offered it. The dinner, which you could buy, was not that good.

Cinque Terre as a holiday destination

Some of the wander paths are under construction for the next five years. That is something to keep in mind if that is the purpose with the holiday. But it was a beautiful experience to get to walk around there.

Ants everywhere

On our second day we had hundreds of ants marching through our room and even in our suitcases! We notified the owner of this problem and all she said was: yes I know, we can't do anything about it because we are in the nature and this happens all the time.
After I threatened to go to another hotel because I didn't want to sleep in between the insects, she finally asked someone to clean our room and spray some anti-insect stuff. This only partly solved the problem, since the ants were coming from the electricity openings in the wall.
We decided to stay the remaining nights because it was too much of a hazzle to find another hotel in August that was close to the ocean.

There were some pluses: the view, pool and the fact that it is close by the cinque terre cities.
However, I wouldn't go there with kids. They are very strict when it comes to showering before you enter the pool, do not move the beds etc.

So when you're considering booking this hotel, I would definitely take this into account.

Nice but not personal

You have a tendency to think that the stay will be more personal and cozy if you choose a smaller place - but that not the cause. The hostess was extremely busy and we almost felt bad for them - they should have had one more employee, especially at breakfast time. We had to ask them several of times to put new food on the breakfast bar, cause it was empty long before closing time of the restaurant. No atmosphere in the bar.

Lovely hotel with a view

Just got home from Hotel Leopold in Moneglia. Liguria is definitely a place we would love to return to. A lovely and clean hotel, located on a sloping hillside. With only 26 rooms and direct view, the hotel had this homelike intimate atmosphere, where it was easily to speak to the other guests. Moneglia city is a cosy little town with a lot of different facilities and nice restaurants. And especially 'Schiamadda' that we visited several times. Of all places, this one had the best food and service. And we will recommend to go and visit the church across the well-known bakery. Its not much from outside, but very beautiful decorated inside.

Cinque Terre as a holiday destination

We took off for a day boat-trip to Cinque Terre. You kan sail to the small villages Tuesdays and Thursdays and that way explore the area. They are charming, but a little worn and with a lot of tourists, so it was hard to get the get the genuine feeling and take pictures. But we were there and it was good.
