A good but understaffed hotel

When it seems like the only employee doesn't even have the time o say "Arrivadeci", when we checked out of the hotel, it gets a bit foolish. She dashed about all day and night, and probably didn't make half of what she was supposed to. There were never cheese and ham, which pretty much was what they had to offer, when we came down for breakfast. She was never able to put out something fresh, since she more than enough to do with set / clear the table, run down to the lobby so guests could check out, etc. The pool area was impressing and elegant, but the water didn't seem very clean. The spa consisted as much of dead skin cells as of water. The last part is probably an exaggeration. We were promised an apartment with a view. It didn't have one. If they had removed the forest, we would have seen the ocean. Absolutely no internet in our "apartment", which lay nearest the garage at the top of the hotel. Nice beach a couple of hundred steps below. There's also a good seafood restaurant. A 15 minute walk over the hill to the town and trains. If I have to recommend just one of the Cinque Terre-towns , Manarola is by far the greatest, at least for photo enthusiasts. Here, bathing in the "lagoon" down by the ocean is recommended. Note, that most of the photos of Vernazza, which many says is the most beautiful of the five towns, has been taken from a plane. There's a reason for that. The "Path of Love" between Manarola and Riomaggiore was closed due to a landslide in 2012. It's still closed in 2016. That is information, no one talks about anywhere on the internet or on information boards in the area.

Cinque Terre as a holiday destination

Cool to have been thee. Took a lot of elegant pictures. But the towns around Lake Garda is even better for most families, I'd think.

A week in Moneglia

Really nice hotel, which was nice and clean, as well as a really good breakfast.
Hotel Leopold seems to be owned by two hosts, who wants to do everything to optimise one's stay.
Hotel Leopold is a bit outside Moneglia, but no longer than it takes ca. 5-10 minutes to walk to the 'centre'.
Our room had an absolutely fantastic view of the ocean. From here there were ca. 3-5 minutes down to the beach, where there both are a private beach (which is with a fee) and a public beach, which is free.
If Wifi is important, you can only find it in the reception, and not in the rooms.

Cinque Terre as a holiday destination

There is a private beach, which is front of Leopold, which also has a restaurant. At first glance it doesn't look like much, but it has a nice location at the beach in front of the ocean and good food. If I had known it was there, I would have eaten there several times than just the last night.

Homely hotel

Fantastic hotel with magical view. We were more than satisfied with the hotel, and the owners were kind and accommodating.
The rooms were small, but have charm. However, air conditioning isn't available.

Cinque Terre as a holiday destination

Beautiful villages by the coast. Practical access by train to one of the 5 small fisher towns. You can walk through the towns or go on a boat trip.

Unfortunately there was a mistake in the booking. We wanted a balcony, but unfortunately we got a terrace. The terrace was too close to trees and plants, which limited the view of the extraordinary place. The hotel owner helped us change rooms, so we got a room with a balcony in the end, like we wanted.

No connection in the rooms, but in certain places at the hotel.

Nice location

We had a lovely week with short distance to beach and town. At the hotel you eat well. We were received well. The following days we experienced, that the host couple were in a hurry, and the male host yelled a lot, though not after the guests, but it got a bit exhausting to listen to. The last afternoon we were there, there were craftsmen in our room, because the air con had broken. They were here for 5 hours, and we weren't offered any kind of compensation (We had probably expected, that they would offer something, without we had to ask for it ourselves)

Restaurant Assirto in the town is a different experience, which is worth getting... reserve a table!

In-Italia's comment

Hello Birgitte. Thank you for your feedback. It helps to get both positive and negative comments. I'm sorry, that there were issues with your air conditioning, but I'm happy to hear, that it got punctually fixed after all. Regarding the loud voice, it is possible, we are dealing with a cultural difference between Italy and Scandinavia. A lot of Italians often raise their voice and speak animatedly, without there's something wrong. Kind regards Allan /In-Italia.

Stay at Hotel Leopold

We had three lovely days at the hotel.
The view from there were fantastic.
The swimming pool area is great and from there, there are also a lovely view.
The host couple is kind and accommodating, but has enough to do, since they are the ones, who are responsible for most things.
The food is first class, but get to breakfast early, if you want cheese and such. Not everything gets filled up.

Restaurant Tender in the town, is also worth a visit.

Lovely peaceful hotel in very beautiful surroundings

Hotel Leopold is located a bit outside of town. The walking distance to the town on 5-10 min. makes it easy to get to the town, if you need to, and you can easily stay away from the busy pulse of the town, if you need that.
The hotel is very clean with very hospitable owners and staff, who are busy all the time to make sure, that everything's okay.
It's possible to eat dinner at the hotel. We did that three times in 10 days. It was a great experience every time. They make great food. There were extra surprises each time in the form of Italian specialities and dessert.
We enjoyed the terrace, pool and the outdoor spa a lot, because they were great after a long hike.

Cinque Terre as a holiday destination

Cinque Terre should probably be visited another time than July. There were a lot of people in the towns.
We quickly found out, that we should stay away from the main pedestrian street and get up into the terrain, then most tourist would disappear, we got some amazing experiences.
We took the train to Corniglia - the most wonderful town in our opinion, since there aren't many tourists. Maybe that's because you can only get there by taking the train or walking? We walked from Corniglia to Vernazza, which was absolutely 'horrible' due to all the tourists. It was just like being at a concert, where you don't get to decide yourself, where you go, and when. The trip was lovely to walk, and can be done by most people in an okay shape. I will recommend that you walk opposite us, meaning from Vernazza to Corneglia, since the view to Corneglia is fantastic, and as previously written, the town is really peaceful , and will be lovely to end up in after a long walk.
We also sailed from Moneglia to Portovenere. Portovenere is a lovely town, where we walked up to the old ruin and up in the streets located highest up - 150 steps above the ones located lowest. We also sailed home and on the way home, we got off in Riomaggionore. Again a town very very packed with people.
Cinque Terre is beautiful, but it doesn't beat Norway :-)
