At Agriturismo Villa Carmelina you have ample opportunity to combine days in the countryside and days on the beautiful coast down below.
Here you stay halfway between Genoa and Portofino about 260 metres above sea level. There is no sea view from up here, but the coastal and trading town of Recco is just about 4 km away, which is where the nearest shops are. It is also from Recco, you can take the train to the other coastal cities, and to the Cinque Terre. The road up here is steep, but paved. Upon arrival there is not an actual parking lot, but it's free to park on the bend on the road where the site is located approximately 30 m along a path. The hosts dog is good as the day is long.
The swimming pool is central on the property and has a terrace with some garden furniture. There is also a small toilet here, so you do not need to go back to the room to use the bathroom.
An agriturismo combines tradition agriculture with accommodation for travellers. Agriturismo Villa Carmelina produces good Ligurian olive oil, lots of greens, lemon liqueur limoncello and its orange counterpart arancino. Their homegrown products are used in the kitchen, which you can enjoy in the restaurant - and in addition there is the option of buying products to take home if you want to extend your holiday experience! There are also animals on site: 100 m away, it is possible to meet both horses, pigs, rabbits and chickens.
Breakfast is partially portion served, while individual products can be enjoy from the buffet. You eat in a dedicated floor but there is also the opportunity to take it outdoors, weather permitting. In the evening, you can dine in the restaurant where they serve mostly local products and dishes. Often during the summer, dinner is served at the side of the pool where there is a very special Mediterranean flair with cicadas and the illuminated pool. The restaurant is also open to outside guests, creating quite a lively atmosphere at meal times.
Agriturismo Villa Carmelina has four nice rooms, all with private terrace. They are located in an annexe about 50 m from the main building, and a bit further back from the pool and restaurant. Three of them are on the ground level and the last on the 1st floor on a slope. Two of them even have a kitchenette (with two-burner stove and refrigerator) which is available at a surcharge, payable on site. All rooms have air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a TV, fridge, a bathroom with a toilet and shower. Two extra beds as bunk beds are available in all rooms.
Evening meals were a joy: communal dining where guests were seated around a long table encouraged conversation in a variety of languages .
Owner Angelo was ever an attentive and generous host with a liking for surprises which gave great delight (there nature must remain secret )
His wife Monica whose English is fluent is also a superb cook .her recipes where loyal to Genovese
tradition, her pastas where particularly delicious and in a fortnight there was never any repetition.
