The town of Sarzana is located in the province of La Spezia on the east side of the river Magra. The old city wall and the four towers of the 17th century are still largely intact.
In the area around the main streets Via Bertoloni and Via Mazzini you will find a number of old buildings and churches such as the Santa Maria Assunta Cathedral. Typical characteristic of the town are the many wrought iron handicrafts.

Between Marinelli and Ortonovo are the remains of the Roman town of Luni that had his heyday in the 3rd and 4th century. A visit to the archaeological site of the ancient city and the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Luni is recommended.
