See for yourselves the charming town with its narrow streets and steep alleyways where you can find everything from little boutique shops, handicrafts, food etc. The town centre is cosy and inviting and it has a lakeside promenade aligned with flowers, markets and cafes.
There are many great options for dining in the town, and before dinner maybe take a walk along the promenade park that is lined with beautiful flowers and benches with scenic viewpoints. You find a good choice of relaxed taverns and cafes to more formal and expensive restaurants renowned for gourmet food.
Whilst Bellagio occupies such a central position on the lake, it is the perfect place from where to catch a ferry to the other towns. Whilst Como is not actually that far away as the crow flies, it takes a while in the car due to the narrow and winding coast road, so sometimes the ferry is a better option. You can take a short 15 minute crossing to Varenna on foot or by car which will take you over to the north east coast of the lake, and many other towns on the lake by ferry from Bellagio.

The area is also known for its many beautiful stately villas and worth visiting are Villa Melzi and Villa Serbelloni. Villa Melzi includes a very beautiful park. From Bellagio there is a stunning view over the 3 parts of the lake, the lower and upper part of Lago di Como on the left, and Lago di Lecco which is the name of the lower part to the bottom east. In his book “Chartreuse de Parme” the author Stendhal describes this view as comparable to - but not exceeding – the most fantastic view in the world, which in his opinion is the view over the bay of Naples. The Frenchman begins his book at Villa Carlotta which is located on the opposite side of the lake to Bellagio.
