This means that it is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved villages in Italy! The village is situated in the lovely wine region of Colline Moreniche, just about 10 km south of Lake Garda and about 30 km from Verona and Mantua.
Even though it is just a stone's throw from Lake Garda, it is largely untouched and absolutely incredible. You can still find some small unspoilt gems in this area. Read more about Castellaro Lagusello
Castellaro castle sits in the centre of the small town with a history that dates back to the period 1100 - 1200, and that has always been the centre of local disputes between Verona and Mantua. The town is located on a small hill, with an incredibly beautiful view to the lake to the south, which unfortunately is privately owned and therefore not available to the public.
In the 1600's, the castle lost its defensive nature, and today it is included as an important element in the extremely picturesque little village with cosy restaurants and private houses.
Castellaro Lagusello is a great base for a wonderful holiday in a quiet environment. It is only a few kilometres to the nearest highway, so a day trip to Venice is definitely an option. Otherwise Lake Garda, Verona and Mantua are under half an hour's away, as is the wine region of Valpolicella under an hour away by car. There are also some wonderful medieval villages in the area, including Valeggio sul Mincio, Volta Mantovana, Borghetto, Monzambano and Solferino, just to name a few.
